About St. Edward's University

St. Edward's University is a private Roman Catholic university located in Austin, which is the capital of the US state of Texas and the seat of Travis County, also being the 4th largest city in the state and the 15th largest one in the US, having a population of more than 780 000 inhabitants, estimated during the 2009 census.


St. Edward's University was founded in 1878, by Rev. Edward Sorin, CSC , Superior General of the Congregation of Holy Cross, on farmland south of Austin, under the name of St. Edward's Academy, which was given to honor his patron saint, Edward the Confessor and King, in 1925 St. Edward's receiving its university charter.


Today, the university offers its students, who number over 5000 in total, 11 master's degree programs and five bachelor's degrees in more than 50 areas of study, through several academic divisions which include Education, Humanities and Management and Business.


Athletics

St. Edward's athletic teams are known as the Hilltoppers, which compete in NCAA Division II, in various men's & women's sports, including in basketball, golf, tennis and soccer. Their mascot is known as Topper.
